The photograph

The photograph behind every page is a heap of naturally dyed wool skeins, hanging on a rail in a Zapotec weaving workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca.

Changes: cropped to a wide frame, softened slightly and toned — Cropped to 1920x1234 through Chrome's own canvas (tools/crop.mjs; there is no ImageMagick on this machine and sips crops only the centre), then softened 3px, saturation 1.06, brightness 0.95 at quality 0.7 (tools/make-ground.mjs). Softened, not veiled: no scrim is painted over it, and the chroma is unchanged to three decimal places by the softening.. The original file is not served.

It is the product in one picture — many different strands, piled into one thing you could pick up — and the palette is taken out of it rather than chosen beside it. Which photograph represents Skein is a decision; whether it works is the measurement below.

What it measures, on the file this site actually serves: chroma 0.090 in OKLCh and a median gradient of 12.1. The brief this site was built to sets a floor of 0.045 chroma, because nineteen sibling sites shipped near-white on near-white; the build fails if the ground drops below it. Nothing is painted over the photograph to make the type readable — the panes are thin on purpose, and every ink on them was proved against the picture's dark end and its bright end before the stylesheet was written.

Code

ethers.js 6.13.5 (MIT), served from this site. The Seaport order shapes follow Seaport's own repository. The measurement tooling — the palette solver, the page-capture harness, the fork library and the property runner — was written for sibling sites (MEED, OLEA, FOIL, PADDOCK) and inherited; the page structure follows POSY.

The contracts it calls

Seaport 1.6 by OpenSea — every lot is one of its orders, and Skein holds no privilege over it. Morpho Blue's markets, for the Robinhood price feed each stock is valued at. Global Dollar (USDG) by Paxos. Robinhood's tokenized stocks. Uniswap's v3 and v4 pools and quoters, which Skein reads in order to price a lot against them and never calls. Skein is not affiliated with any of them, and deploys no contract of its own.
